Craft Hour: Tagua & Macramé

Craft Hour: Tagua & Macramé In-Person

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by learning about a special South American nut used for handicrafts -- then use some to make a bracelet!

Tagua, also known as "vegetable ivory,"  is a tropical tree nut that grows in clusters on the tagua palm in South American rainforests. The nut has a close grain and creamy white color that resembles ivory, which can also be dyed to bring out its marbled structure.

Artisans use the nut to make a variety of household items, including jewelry, buttons, chess pieces and umbrella handles.

Come learn about this sustainable natural resource and leave with a unique piece of jewelry!
