SUMMARY:CANCELLED: Parent/Guardian Engagement Series: Early Literacy
DESCRIPTION: March 4 - Early Literacy \n\n2/27/2025 UPDATE: This event has
been cancelled but a recording of a past presentation of the material will
be made available. Check our website soon for details. \n\nMorley Library
is partnering with the Educational Service Center of Western Reserve to
offer a 3-part series of parent/guardian engagement programs. Registration
is requested.\n\nNeuroscience has given us expansive insight into how we
learn to read and what children need to become strong readers. In this
session\, we will share the research about reading\, talk about
evidence-based practices for early literacy (preschool through Grade 3) and
look at the important role home life can have in building skills readers
need. Participants will learn both how to support early literacy skills
and how to advocate for their children when schools may not be aligning
their practices with The Science of Reading. In the second half of the
session\, we will view and discuss clips from the award-winning
documentary The Right to Read. This is open to family\, caregivers\, and
anyone who wants to continue to support our early learners in developing
 critical literacy skills.\n\nMarch 11 - Bullying\n\nMiddle School is when
bullying is reported the most. Empowering our caregivers with knowledge and
tools is an important way to address and prevent bullying. Learn about the
warning signs to look out for\, how to handle the situation if your child
experiences or contributes to bullying and how to talk to your child's
 school about bullying. \n\nMarch 19 - Chronic Absenteeism\n\nIn this
series we will go over what chronic absenteeism is\, how we as
parents/caregivers can support student attendance and end with some tips
 for reducing chronic absence.
